High-floor bogies – Traveling in comfort, even on challenging routes

HeiterBlick’s high-floor bogies are noted for their resilience. They are in daily use in a large number of vehicles such as the Vamos Bielefeld and the LeoLiners which are in operation in Leipzig and Halberstadt.

For the Vamos HF we have used the same tried-and-tested construction –  a flexible half-frame design made for a variety of gauges.

The motor and trailer bogies are linked by cradles via bogie pins or roller slewing rings.

The wheel system comprises rubber-cushioned wheelsets,  rubber-coated metal spring elements for primary suspension and coil springs with shock absorbers for secondary suspension (the cradle). The three-stage braking system uses regenerative braking of traction motors, disc brakes for parking, and track brakes.

A three-phase asynchronous motor drives the motor bogies. Power is transmitted to the two-stage axle drive via couplings and Cardan shafts.

EXAMPLES

the Vamos Bielefeld

High-floor motor bogies with a one-metre gauge have been installed in 16 eight-axle Vamos Bielefeld LRVs since 2011, a project which has greatly benefited from our bogie technology with

  • bogie designs that have been tried and tested over many years,
  • 80 kW traction motor output,
  • high levels of passenger comfort,
  • low wear, and
  • low maintenance costs

the LeoLiner in Leipzig and Halberstadt

Leipzig uses 50 standard-gauge and five metre-gauge vehicles with motor bogies. Here too, high-floor bogies have proved an all-round success with

  • the availability of standard and metre-gauge versions,
  • high drive power,
  • use even on challenging routes,
  • high levels of passenger comfort, and
  • low maintenance costs

tram upgrading in Sofia

Here 18 Tatra T8M fleet vehicles were to be refurbished in Sofia/Bulgaria. As part of the project, a new high-floor motor bogie was designed for a gauge of 1,009 mm and 36 of these manufactured. Using asynchronous motors, a traction motor output of 2 x 90 kW was achieved. The diameter of the new driving wheels was 700 mm compared to 635 mm in their worn condition. The wheel base was 1,900 mm. Benefits include

  • a new design to meet customer requirements
  • robust and reliable technology
  • high levels of passenger comfort
  • low maintenance costs
